Graveyard Of Souls: Shadows of life

23/08/13  ||  Cobal

There’s little to say about this one: It is the kind of gothic-oriented doom metal that you could expect from bands such as Sirenia, I guess, except without the chick vocals. It’s slow, atmospheric, melodic and at some points even lilting, yet it definitely lacks variety and it gets to be monotonous. On the other hand, songwriting is not bad. For example, I did enjoy “Follow Me” very, very much for its well accomplished structure and catchy themes use. I’d say this Spanish duo could be releasing something of greater interest to me in the near future.

In the end, I have nothing against it, but I feel “Shadows of life” is kind of a meh debut, although I perceive some potential. By the by, they need a proper growler if you ask me.

5/10: Rather average with some highlights. Maybe next time.
